Amidst the worldwide pandemic, UFC is surely one of the sports that has moved significantly. From a private fight beach to a full house UFC 262, Dana White has promoted the business better than anyone around the globe.
The light heavyweight division is undoubtedly the most difficult in the entire UFC. With the undisputed king Khabib Nurmagodev retired, UFC needed the king for its premier division. A year ago, Tony Ferguson, Justin Gaethje, Mcgregor were a few names that one must have thought of today to sit on the throne.
In less than a year, UFC’s vacant title was up for a grab. Michael Chandler and Charles Oliviera worked hard to seize the opportunity to go for the prestigious belt. UFC 262 had two light heavyweight fights deciding the future of four brilliant fighters. Tony Ferguson had to taste the sour defeat consecutively the third time. Beneil emerged as the winner of the co-main event and showed the world that he is ready to be in the belt fights.
That’s how a main event should be
It was a matter of 25 minutes to decide the light heavyweight champion in the main event of UFC 262. There’s no doubt in the sheer brilliance of Charles Oliviera and Chandler. As expected, the first round of the fight was a complete sea-saw. The leg kick by Oliviera put Chandler down in the very first minute. A few seconds later, Chandler punched right above the eyebrow that stunned Oliviera. Oliviera went for grappling and he almost had Chandler tap.
But, unbelievably Chandler’s powerful punches almost got Oliviera knocked out. Chandler has exceptional accuracy when it comes to punches. Somehow Oliviera survived the fury by Chandler.
Charles Oliviera is arguably a complete fighter in the light heavyweight division. He beat El cucuy earlier and now dismantled a strong Michael Chandler. He made his UFC debut back in 2010 and lived a long mixed journey to be at the very top. There was a time when he was 2-4 in his last 6 fights. But things changed after 2017 for the glorious Brazilian mixed martial artist. He is undefeated in his last 9 fights and it won’t be too early to say that he is here to rule.
There are many in line to take on the new light heavy weight champion. But it will be a tough ask to defeat such an elite fighter.
